How a daily cup of tea can help with anxiety and depression
My association with this tea is a personal one. During the last couple of years I have been drawn to this herbal blend to help with that feeling of an underlying agitation that is a typical symptom for women in their forties and one I have been struggling with for a few years. True Calm has been a firm favourite on my tea shelf for a while now. The calm effect is very subtle and easy. No pills, no powders, just simple herbs in a hot drink which I was already making every day.

One of the main ingredients in Tea Tonic's True Calm Tea is Tulsi, or Holy Basil as some know it.
This herb has a long history in many cultures and it's one of the most sacred plants in Hinduism and deeply embedded in traditional healing medicine for treating a number of health concerns, often called the “Queen of Herbs”.

I recently came across a story about a man who experienced several episodes of depression and battled through the darkness until one day he accepted his wife's offer of assistance, which came from her herbal remedy collection. One of the main herbs was Tulsi. He is now a converted herbal remedy believer and takes a daily dose to support his mental health and swears by its effectiveness. It quite literally changed his life.
Tulsi is classified as a rejuvenator and an adaptogen, helping the body adapt to stress and restore balance. So it is helpful if you are in a low state (depression, lethargy) or a high state (anxiety, stress) by bringing an uplifting, calm, balanced feeling back to your body and mind.
Tulsi has also been used traditionally for positive effects on obese patients and along with the Moringa and Monk Fruit in this blend, it may offer metabolic balance, help with regulation of blood sugar and energy levels.
True Calm also contains Cornflower blossom, which, along with the Moringa, has a number of health benefits including anti-inflammatory properties.
This tea has a "sweet passionfruit" flavour profile, it's caffeine free, so it can be a go-to for any time of day. It is also a favourite for the kids.
After dinner, I like to mix it in my teapot with a teaspoon of Relaxation Tea or Deep Dream Tea for a great pre-bedtime tea. It has that bit of sweetness which pairs well with my dark chocolate habit 😉

Try it as an iced tea at the end of the day as a natural soothing wind-down from your hectic work day. Perfect healthy alternative to that 5pm drink, saving your body from the toxins of alcohol.
Here's our favourite recipe (pictured above).
The 5pm Cool & Calm Mocktail
Ingredients (makes 2 drinks)
1 TBS Tea Tonic True Calm Loose Leaf Tea
2 Cups drinking water
1 330ml bottle of Schweppes Lemon Lime & Bitters
Ice
Orange slice for garnish
Prep this in the morning when you are making your morning cup of tea; place 1 Tablespoon of True Calm tea into a small jug and add 2 cups of cold fresh drinking water. Mix tea leaves. Pop the jug into the fridge to infuse for the day.
At 5 o'clock, drain and reserve the brew through a sieve and discard the tea leaves.
Add some ice to a glass, add half a glass of the True Calm Tea and top up the rest with the Schweppes Lemon Lime & Bitters. Garnish with a slice or two of fresh orange.
TIP: You can also use a teabag for a quicker option to skip step 2 (True Calm or True Zen) . 1 tea bag is fine or use 2 for a stronger brew.
Enjoy! 🍃🧡🍊
