How to get your "8+ a day" in winter

Updated: May 7

Do you get your 8 glasses of water a day? It can be so hard! Especially in winter. Try these proven tips to help increase your fluid intake without even realising.

  1. Get in 1 cup right off the get go

One of the best things you can do when you first get up is to rehydrate from the nights sleep.

Make it super fast - boil the jug, half fill your cup along with your favourite teabag, let it brew, fill the cup with some cold drinking water so you can drink it straight away and get onto your morning tasks.

  1. Get in 2+ cups instead of 1

When you have your morning tea break, instead of making a cup of tea or coffee, make a pot of tea. Use 1 teabag and steep for a bit longer to go twice the distance. Even a smaller tea pot will make 2 cups of tea. So you've just added 2 glasses to your day instead of 1!

  1. Think iced tea instead of plain water for your drink bottle

We're more likely to drink from our water bottle during the day if it has a flavour. Iced tea is a great option without adding sugars or nasties. Try Thirst Quencher or Coconut Tea.

Use your traveling time in the car to catch up on fluids.

  1. Swop out your 5pm alcoholic beverage for a tea mocktail.

Tea mocktails combine black, green, oolong or herbal teas with fresh fruits, herbs, natural sweeteners and sparkling mixers to create flavourful non-alcoholic drinks with complex flavour and antioxidants. You can easily increase your 1 drink to 2 without any guilt about overdoing the alcohol.

  1. Eat early and prep for sleep

Allowing 4 hours for digestion before hitting the hay is best practise. It also helps to reduce fluid intake 2-3 hours before bed so sleep is not interrupted by toilet trips! Make that one last pot of tea straight after dinner to allow it to fully process and aid sleep with herbs that help the body wind down. Try Relaxation tea, or After the Feast tea.

That's over 8 cups right there! By adding 2 or 3 of these hacks into your daily routine, you may just find that keeping hydrated is not as hard as it used to be.
